The Bath House's 40th Dia de Muertos Exhibition Enters Its Final Week at White Rock Lake

The Bath House's 40th Dia de Muertos Exhibition Enters Its Final Week at White Rock Lake (Dallas Watch News)

Dallas's longest-running Dia de Muertos exhibition is in its final days. The Bath House Cultural Center at White Rock Lake is showing the 40th annual 'Dia de Muertos: They're Having a Party!' through November 7 — the exhibition Cora Cardona, founder of Teatro Dallas, first brought to the Bath House four decades ago, this year curated by Enrique Fernandez Cervantes.

The theme is in the title. Cervantes invited artists to imagine their departed relatives, friends and loved ones doing what brought them happiness in life, and the galleries hold about 80 works in response: Maggie Wolter's three life-size papier-mache sculptures of her father as a child with his mother and sister in Oaxaca; Ernest Perez's bright acrylic of a skeletal couple dancing, 'Baile Eterno' — Eternal Dance; and, across the rooms, large sugar skulls, ceramics, acrylic and oil paintings, sculpture, fiber art, mixed media, photography and altar installations.

The practical details matter this week: the exhibition is free, the Bath House is at 521 E. Lawther Drive on the shore of White Rock Lake, and the center keeps Tuesday-to-Saturday hours, noon to 6 p.m. — it is closed Sunday and Monday, so the final-week visit is a Tuesday-through-Saturday plan, with the last day on Saturday, November 7.
