THE WEEKEND — COINS, CARS & CRAFTS

Coins, Cars and Crafts: Grapevine's Coin Show, Plano's Painted Supercars, and 170 Craft Vendors in Southlake

The other half of the Dallas–Fort Worth weekend is indoors and hands-on: about 70 coin dealers in Grapevine, artists painting supercars live in Plano on Saturday morning, a gifts fair for good causes in Denton, and more than 170 vendors at the Southlake Carroll PTO Craft Fair.

Coins, Cars and Crafts: Grapevine's Coin Show, Plano's Painted Supercars, and 170 Craft Vendors in Southlake (Dallas Watch News)

Start in Grapevine, where the Texas Coin Show takes over the Grapevine Convention Center at 1209 South Main Street for three days. About 70 dealers will be set up for collectors and the curious to browse, buy, sell and trade coins, paper currency and other collectibles, Community Impact Newspaper's weekend list reports. The hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, with admission at $2 to $5.

Saturday morning belongs to Plano. For the Love of Art and Cars runs 9 a.m. to noon at the ArtCentre of Plano, 902 East 16th Street, and admission is free: local artists set up in front of a display of supercars and sports cars and paint them live, and visitors can meet the artists and watch the canvases fill in. In Denton, the Alternative Gifts Fair at First United Methodist Church, 201 South Locust Street, runs Friday through Sunday at various times — admission is $5 on Friday and free on Saturday and Sunday — with more than 30 booths selling artisan crafts from around the world in support of local and international causes.

The biggest craft room of the weekend is in Southlake, where the Southlake Carroll PTO's annual Craft Fair at Southlake Carroll Senior High School brings in more than 170 vendors offering holiday decor, gifts, jewelry, clothing, accessories and specialty foods, with proceeds benefiting Project Graduation. Community Impact's list carries no set hours for the Southlake fair, and this desk prints none rather than guess. One item on the paper's five-event list is deliberately not here: FC Dallas's season closer against Colorado in Frisco, which this station has already published as its Decision Day file.
