Dallas City Hall's Monday: Parks and Trails at 9, Landmark Commission All Day, and an Economic Development Briefing on Data Centers at 1

Election Eve does not empty City Hall — four posted meetings run Monday at 1500 Marilla, including the committee briefing on data center research, before Tuesday's bond election notice takes over the calendar.

Dallas City Hall works a full Monday even on the eve of an election. The City Secretary's public-meetings calendar for Monday, November 2 lists the Council Parks, Trails, and the Environment Committee at 9:00 a.m., the Landmark Commission's briefing at 9:30 a.m. and its public hearing at 1:00 p.m., and the Council Economic Development Committee at 1:00 p.m. — all at City Hall, 1500 Marilla Street, with virtual attendance as posted, and registration noted for the Landmark Commission sessions. A quorum of the full City Council may attend a committee meeting, the calendar's standing disclaimer notes, which is what makes a committee Monday worth watching even when the full council is not in session.

The item with the longest shadow on Monday's list sits in the afternoon. AgendaWire's review of the week's DFW agendas identified, among the Economic Development Committee's business, a briefing on data center research and preliminary recommendations — the same buildout that has made North Texas a center of the industry and that Tuesday's national results may put under new scrutiny in Washington. The committee's recommendations, when they come, will shape how the city positions itself for the next round of that construction. The Landmark Commission's two sessions, briefing in the morning and public hearing in the afternoon, carry the city's preservation docket, and the Parks, Trails, and the Environment Committee opens the day with the green-space file.

Tuesday's calendar shows what Election Day does to the building: the Zoning Ordinance Advisory Committee is listed as cancelled, the day's first entry is the 7:00 a.m. Notice of Election for the Special Called Bond Election, and the Board of Adjustment's full board sits at 9:00 a.m. The week's city business then resumes Wednesday with the City Council briefing — where, AgendaWire noted, the city's state and federal legislative programs are among the items — one day after Dallas voters will have reshaped the legislature those programs lobby. Monday, in other words, is the last full working day of the old political calendar, and City Hall is spending it on parks, landmarks and data centers.
