The Dallas Farmers Market is celebrating Halloween the farmers-market way. Its new Seed Scavenger Hunt runs Saturday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the market said: children pick up their scavenger hunt lists at The Shed's Information Booth, then set out to find seeds while learning which varieties are best, when to plant them and how to care for them. Along the way they can personalize seed packets and collect everything needed to start a seed library of their own.

The hunt is the center of a full Saturday at 920 South Harwood Street. Balloon Art by Bender twists creations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Kids' Activity table makes spider-web snowflakes from 10 a.m. to noon, and Healthy Plates DFW pops up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Live music runs through the middle of the day - Jacy Penland in The Market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Rosy L. in The Shed from noon to 2 p.m. - and this week's Pumpkin of the Week is the tried-and-true Jack-O'-Lantern.

The Halloween and Dia de los Muertos weekend continues at the market on Sunday, November 1, with more balloon art from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and a paper sugar-skull Kids' Activity from 10 a.m. to noon. For families, Saturday's market hours make it a daylight first stop: seeds in the morning, and the neighborhood trick-or-treating still ahead in the evening.
