10-0 in Frisco: Trey Wright Accounts for Six Touchdowns as Lone Star Routs McKinney North, 58-7, to Close a Perfect Regular Season

The Rangers are perfect. Frisco Lone Star beat McKinney North 58-7 on Thursday night at Kuykendall Stadium to finish the regular season 10-0, behind a junior quarterback who threw for three touchdowns, ran for three more, and caught a pass for good measure — with his future college coach watching from the stands.

10-0 in Frisco: Trey Wright Accounts for Six Touchdowns as Lone Star Routs McKinney North, 58-7, to Close a Perfect Regular Season (Dallas Watch News)

Frisco Lone Star finished what it started in August. The Rangers routed McKinney North 58-7 on Thursday night in the District 5A-5 Division I finale at Kuykendall Stadium, closing the regular season at 10-0 overall and 7-0 in district play, ranked No. 5 in the state by High School On SI. It was not close after the first quarter, and the reason was the same reason it has been all season: junior quarterback Trey Wright, a USC commit, playing in front of his future head coach, Lincoln Riley, who was in the crowd.

Wright accounted for more than 400 yards of total offense and six touchdowns. He completed 9 of 15 passes for 264 yards and three scores, rushed five times for 140 yards and three more touchdowns, and caught a 13-yard pass from Karece Hoyt on a trick play for good measure. Hoyt had a night of his own — 66 rushing yards and a touchdown, three catches for 98 yards and a score, and that throw. Lone Star finished with 542 yards of offense, 265 on the ground and 277 through the air, and held McKinney North to 308 total yards and just 6 passing yards.

The rout was built early. After an Easton Da Silva field goal, cornerback Bryant Robinson — a Clemson commit — jumped a route at midfield and returned the interception 50 yards for a touchdown and a 10-0 lead. Wright then ran for touchdowns of 56 and 7 yards, Hoyt scored from 5, and it was 31-0 at halftime. Three plays into the second half Wright kept the ball for 60 yards and another score; touchdown passes of 60 yards to Braxton Wambach and 70 to Hoyt made it 51-0 before the fourth quarter. McKinney North's only score was John Richardson's 4-yard run with 6:50 left — Richardson carried 22 times for 152 yards for the Bulldogs, who finish 7-2 and 4-3 — and Wright's 27-yard strike to Aaron Adigun closed the scoring.

The numbers behind the perfection are the story Lone Star carries into the playoffs: 494 points scored against 149 allowed, four wins of 62 points or more in the last five games, and a closest call all season of five points, a 35-30 win at Melissa in late September. Wright entered Thursday with 2,690 passing yards and 39 touchdown passes plus 948 rushing yards and 13 scores, then added six more touchdowns to the ledger. The regular season is over in Frisco. The postseason starts with a 10-0 team that nobody in its district could slow down.
