Kyrie Irving Downgraded to Doubtful for Tonight's Kings Game: the Mavericks' Best Weekend Meets Its Knee-Management Plan
Two days after his 35-point night against Houston, Kyrie Irving is doubtful to face the winless Kings — a downgrade that says less about a new injury than about the long arithmetic of an ACL comeback.

The update moved the wrong way on game day. Dallas downgraded Kyrie Irving from questionable to doubtful for Monday night's home game against the Sacramento Kings, citing left knee injury management, in a move reported by NBA insider Marc Stein and carried Monday afternoon by Yardbarker and ClutchPoints. Irving had been listed as questionable on Sunday's report — two days after he played 34 minutes and 53 seconds and scored 35 points in Friday's 116-111 win over the Houston Rockets.
The context is the comeback, not a collapse. Friday was Irving's fifth game since he tore the ACL in his left knee on March 3, 2025, and the designation, as ClutchPoints noted, stems from the recovery process rather than any new injury. He has been here before in this young season: he carried the same management designation before Wednesday's game against Oklahoma City, was listed questionable, and played. RotoWire's read of the downgrade is that he is expected to miss his second game of the season, with the team hoping he is ready Wednesday against San Antonio — and with Walter Clayton Jr. and Marcus Sasser in line for extra run if he sits.
The rest of the report moved the other way. Santi Aldama climbed from out to doubtful as he works back from right knee surgery — he has not played since February 4 and has practiced with the Texas Legends affiliate — Naji Marshall is off the report entirely, and Caleb Martin is available with a splint on his right thumb. Across the floor, the 0-6 Kings list Zach LaVine as day-to-day with right elbow inflammation, with Keegan Murray and Maxime Raynaud out and Ben Simmons gone for the season. Tip-off at American Airlines Center is 7 p.m. Central, and after Monday the Mavericks' week turns to Friday's NBA Cup visit from Utah.
