POWERBALL — THE RESULT

7, 23, 29, 64, 66 and Powerball 23: Nobody Won the $793 Million, So the Tenth-Biggest Jackpot in History Rolls to Wednesday

Monday night's Powerball drawing produced its numbers and no jackpot winner: the $793 million prize — the tenth-largest in the game's history — survives Election Day and draws again Wednesday night, while a second giant, Mega Millions at $482 million, draws on Election Night itself.

Check the tickets one more time. The winning numbers for Monday night's Powerball drawing were 7, 23, 29, 64 and 66, with a Powerball of 23 and a Power Play multiplier of 4x — and no ticket matched all six, according to the reports of the drawing read overnight. The jackpot, an estimated $793 million with a cash value of $339.9 million, rolls to Wednesday night's drawing.

The prize that got away was a historic one: at $793 million it stood as the tenth-largest jackpot in Powerball's history. The game has now gone unwon since August 12, when a ticket in Illinois took $1.04 billion — the eighth-largest prize the game has ever paid. The odds a single ticket faced on Monday were the ones printed on the back of it: 1 in 292.2 million.

Texas players get no rest, because the week's second giant draws on Election Night. Mega Millions stands at an estimated $482 million, with a cash option of $203.6 million, for Tuesday's 11 p.m. Eastern drawing — 10 p.m. in Texas, an hour after the polls here close and about the time the first Senate numbers are landing. Friday's Mega Millions numbers, for the file, were 5, 10, 38, 49 and 68 with a Mega Ball of 17; no ticket matched all six, and none matched even the five white balls.

So Election Day in Texas is bookended by lotteries: a $793 million prize that survived Monday night and will be drawn again Wednesday, and a $482 million prize drawn Tuesday night, in the middle of the count. The next Powerball drawing is Wednesday, November 4, at 10:59 p.m. Eastern — 9:59 p.m. Texas time, the deadline this station has printed all week. Somebody's week is going to change. Monday night, it just wasn't anybody holding 7, 23, 29, 64, 66 and 23 quite in that order.

TEXAS ENERGY — THE OIL PRICE ON ELECTION EVE

Oil's Wildest Day in Months Ends in Texas's Favor — Then the Qeshm Report Took Some of It Back Overnight

Brent crude fell 7.63 percent on Monday, its sharpest drop in months, as peace-talk hopes unwound the war premium — then rose half a percent in early Asian trade after a report of a U.S. strike on Iran's Qeshm Island. For Texas, the benchmark that matters, WTI, stood at $96.93 as voters prepared to cast ballots in an election the Iran war's gasoline prices helped shape.
