Punkin Chunkin in Lewisville: Pumpkins Fly by Catapult on Halloween Afternoon
Before the costumes come out on Saturday, Lewisville Lake Park hosts the Metroplex's most literal fall send-off: homemade catapults and trebuchets launching pumpkins into the sky, noon to 2 p.m., $6 to watch and free to compete.

Halloween afternoon in Lewisville starts with a launch. Punkin Chunkin runs Saturday, October 31, from noon to 2 p.m. at Lewisville Lake Park, where local teams use handmade catapults and trebuchets to send pumpkins flying - and, as DFW Child's weekend guide puts the appeal, to watch them go splat.
The guide lists Punkin Chunkin as its top event in Denton County for the Halloween weekend. Spectators pay $6; competing as a team is free. The machines are homemade, built by the locals who bring them, which makes the afternoon part engineering show, part fall festival - every launch is a small experiment in how far a pumpkin can travel before gravity finishes the argument.
The timing makes it a natural first stop of a Halloween Saturday: two midday hours at the lake park, done by 2 p.m., hours before trick-or-treating starts across the Metroplex. Families coming from Dallas or Fort Worth get the spectacle in daylight and the evening back for costumes.
