Cowboys Trade Deadline: Maxx Crosby Is Off the Market, and the Name Left Is the Man Who Just Sacked Dak Prescott

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday that Las Vegas will not move Crosby and Crosby does not want to leave. The deadline is November 10, Dallas holds four picks in next year's draft, and Arizona's Josh Sweat — a reported Cowboys interest — ended Dallas's first overtime possession himself.

Cowboys Trade Deadline: Maxx Crosby Is Off the Market, and the Name Left Is the Man Who Just Sacked Dak Prescott (Dallas Watch News)

The biggest name in the Cowboys' deadline season is gone before the deadline arrives. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported on Sunday that the Las Vegas Raiders have no plans to trade defensive end Maxx Crosby and that Crosby is not seeking a move. 'Maxx absolutely does not want to leave Las Vegas under any circumstances,' a source told ESPN. 'His hope, though not in his full control, is that he remains a Raider for life.' Dallas had pursued Crosby since the offseason — the Cowboys made what was reported as a competitive offer, and Baltimore at one point agreed to send two first-round picks before backing out after Crosby's physical raised knee concerns. Through seven games Crosby has 18 tackles and two sacks for a Raiders team that started 3-0 and has lost four straight.

Which leaves the name Dallas just met. Schefter has reported interest in Arizona outside linebacker Josh Sweat, with the Cowboys a team to watch — and on Sunday, in this building, Sweat sacked Dak Prescott to end the Cowboys' first overtime possession in the 33-30 loss. The constraints around any move are real: Dallas holds only four picks in next year's draft, and owner Jerry Jones has already framed the acquisition of cornerback Joey Porter Jr. as the club's primary in-season splash, which is one reason the likeliest deadline outcome in Dallas has always been standing pat.

The deadline itself is November 10 — a full week after Election Day — so Sunday's report closes the Crosby chapter without closing the Cowboys' week. A 3-5 team that has not won consecutive games since last November, with a defense that gave up 467 yards to a backup quarterback, has needs an edge rusher would answer. What it no longer has is the fantasy that the answer is Maxx Crosby.
