Monday on I-30 in Rockwall County: the Daytime Flagging Starts Today on Both Frontage Roads

The overnight closures were the first phase. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today — and every day through Saturday — flaggers take over stretches of both I-30 frontage roads between FM 2642 and FM 551.

Monday on I-30 in Rockwall County: the Daytime Flagging Starts Today on Both Frontage Roads (Dallas Watch News)

Rockwall County's week of I-30 construction changes character on Monday morning. The work that began Sunday was overnight work; what begins at 9 a.m. today is daytime work, in the middle of the driving day. Contractor crews will run flagging operations on the westbound frontage road of I-30 between FM 2642 and FM 551 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., installing low-profile barriers, and on the eastbound frontage road between FM 551 and FM 2642 over the same hours, for barrier installation and placement of continuously reinforced concrete pavement. The flagging schedule runs daily from November 2 through November 7, which makes Monday the first of six consecutive flagged days on both frontage roads.

The overnight pattern continues underneath it. Eastbound I-30 between State Highway 205 and FM 3549 closes in alternating lanes from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for removals, sod placement and installation of cement-treated base, and westbound lanes between John King Boulevard and SH 205 close in the same hours for the same base work. FM 548, northbound and southbound, is fully closed overnight — 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. — through November 6 while crews install diaphragms and shoring. Contractor crews say they are coordinating with emergency medical services, fire departments and police so emergency vehicles keep access through the closure areas.

For the Monday drive, the practical map is this: the morning commute runs before the flagging starts, the midday hours carry it, and the evening commute runs after it ends at 3 p.m. Frontage-road trips between FM 2642 and FM 551 in either direction are the ones to reroute or pad between 9 and 3, and anyone crossing the corridor late should expect the overnight lane pattern, not the daytime one. The work is scheduled, posted and finite — six days of flagging, five more nights of the FM 548 closure — and Monday is the day the daytime half of it begins.
