No. 11 Texas Beats Mississippi State 31-3 in Austin: Manning Throws Three Touchdowns and the Defense Scores One (Dallas Watch News)

There was no Halloween fright in Austin. No. 11 Texas scored on the game's first possession and cruised past Mississippi State 31-3 on Saturday night at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium, improving to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the SEC while handing the Bulldogs (4-4, 2-4) their fourth straight loss.

Arch Manning threw three touchdown passes: 14 yards to Cam Coleman on the opening drive, 4 yards to Raleek Brown in the third quarter, and 42 yards to Emmett Mosley V with 7:56 left for the final margin. Coleman set up his own score with a 47-yard catch and finished with two catches for 61 yards, but he did not play the second half after being spotted in street clothes. The defense supplied the night's loudest moment before halftime: Mississippi State starter AJ Swann lost a fumble that Maraad Watson returned for a touchdown and a 17-0 lead, and Swann was knocked out of the game on the play; Billy Puckett finished at quarterback for the Bulldogs.

Mississippi State's only points were Kyle Ferrie's 30-yard field goal in the third quarter, and the Bulldogs' offense has now scored 18 points across its last 13 quarters, according to the Clarion Ledger's account. A 45-yard field goal by G. Spetic completed Texas' scoring line in a game the Longhorns controlled from the first series to the last.
