Early voting for the November 3 midterms closed with 7,552,377 Texas ballots returned — 40 percent of the state's registered voters — and Dallas County's in-person early vote ran at 155 percent of its 2022 midterm final.

Texas Early Voting Closes at 7.55 Million Ballots: Dallas County Cast 603,255 and Tarrant 541,163 (Dallas Watch News)

Texas has finished voting early, and the final count is a midterm record book of its own. The Secretary of State's file, posted October 31, counts 7,552,377 ballots returned through the close of early voting on Friday, October 30 — 7,293,036 cast in person and 259,341 returned by mail, with all 254 counties reporting. That is 40 percent of the state's registered voters already voted before Election Day.

The Metroplex sits near the top of the county table. Harris County leads Texas at 992,835 ballots returned in the state file; Dallas County is second at 603,255 and Tarrant County third at 541,163, ahead of Bexar (525,323) and Travis (453,636). Dallas County's own daily reports tell the in-person part of the story: 607,886 in-person early votes through October 30, which is 155 percent of the county's entire 2022 midterm in-person early vote of 391,328 — and the final day alone, Friday, added 73,430 in-person ballots in Dallas County. The state-file and county-report series count slightly differently, so each figure here carries its source; both point the same way.

What remains is Election Day itself. Polls in Dallas and Tarrant Counties open at 7 a.m. Tuesday, November 3, and this station's voting guide (where to vote, vote-center rules and the DART free-ride code) is already published. Turnout watch coverage follows through Tuesday night.
