Bring a Photo, Share a Memory: Community Beer Co. Hosts Its Dia de los Muertos Brunch Today, 10:30 to 2 (Dallas Watch News)

Sunday's gentlest Dia de los Muertos invitation in Dallas comes with brunch. Community Beer Co. hosts its Dia de los Muertos brunch today, November 1, at its taproom at 3110 Commonwealth Drive: brunch from The Community Kitchen runs 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the festivities — a vendor market, face painting and cookie decorating among them — continue through the taproom until 3 p.m.

The heart of it is the community ofrenda. The brewery has invited Dallas to honor a loved one by adding their photo to the altar in the taproom — bring a printed photo, or email one ahead and the brewery prints it for you — with a thank-you drink for those who raise a glass in a loved one's honor, in the brewery's own framing of the day. It is the same tradition the cemeteries and cultural centers across the Metroplex are keeping this weekend, kept here at a brunch table.

The practical details close the file: the ofrenda remains on display through today, November 1, and afterward the brewery holds every photo behind the bar for pickup through November 9 — no one's grandmother stays in a taproom by accident. Brunch hours are 10:30 to 2, activities 11 to 3, and the event is billed as family-friendly.
