Dia de los Muertos in Oak Cliff: CocoAndre's Sunday Celebration on Centre Street
Oak Cliff marks Dia de los Muertos on Sunday, November 1, at CocoAndre Chocolatier on Centre Street — art, music, dance, food, face painting and community altars on the day set aside for children who have died.

Dia de los Muertos unfolds in Dallas this weekend in the order the tradition keeps it: Sunday, November 1, is Dia de los Angelitos, set aside for children who have died, and Monday, November 2, honors adults. In Oak Cliff, Sunday's neighborhood celebration centers on CocoAndre Chocolatier and Horchateria at 423 Centre Street, where co-owner Cindy Pedraza founded the gathering that has become one of the neighborhood's fixtures of the season.
The Oak Cliff celebration brings together art, music, dance, food, face painting and altar displays — the ofrendas of photographs, candles, marigolds and favorite foods that families build for the people they miss. It is a street-level, walk-up kind of observance, in the middle of a neighborhood where the holiday is a community occasion as much as a family one.
Sunday offers other ways in across Dallas. Smittox Brewing at 930 East Clarendon Drive hosts a Plant Loteria — Dia de los Muertos Edition from 4 to 6 p.m., a plant-themed twist on the classic game of loteria, with tickets listed at $19.32 to $36.64 through Eventbrite. And the weekend's larger observances continue into Monday, when Crown Hill Memorial Park's 12th Celebracion closes with its performance evening — full details in this station's earlier file.
