MAVERICKS — GAME NIGHT

Kings vs. Mavericks: the NBA's Only Winless Team Walks Into the AAC, and the Rookie Duel Runs the Night

Search interest says this is the game the country is typing about — #3 on the national trending list. In Dallas the shape is simple: a 4-2 home team on a three-game streak, a 0-6 visitor that has allowed 121 or more in every game, and two of the league's loudest young scorers on the same floor.

Kings vs. Mavericks: the NBA's Only Winless Team Walks Into the AAC, and the Rookie Duel Runs the Night (Dallas Watch News)

It is the mismatch that explains the search bar. "Kings vs. Mavericks" sat third on the national trending list Monday evening, and the standings explain why people are looking: Dallas is 4-2 and has won three straight, Sacramento is 0-6 — the league's only winless team — and has allowed at least 121 points in every game it has played, including Saturday's 136-105 loss in Memphis. Dallas closes a three-game homestand at American Airlines Center on Monday night, tip at 7 p.m. Central on KFAA Channel 29 and MavsTV+, before traveling to San Antonio on Wednesday. Oddsmakers made the home team a 10.5-point favorite.

The duel inside the game is between the last two draft classes' loudest names. Cooper Flagg comes in averaging 26.8 points, 6.0 rebounds and 6.6 assists on 55.7 percent shooting, and Friday's 116-111 win over Houston was his loudest line yet — 33 points, nine rebounds and six assists, alongside Kyrie Irving's 35 and nine. Across from him, Sacramento's rookie guard Darius Acuff Jr. averages 26.3 points and 6.3 assists but shoots under 40 percent on more than 20 shots a game for a team Sports Illustrated scores with the league's worst net rating, minus-17.8, against Dallas's plus-2.9. The Kings' counterweights are veterans: Zach LaVine at 23.5 points a night and Domantas Sabonis leading the entire league at 15.8 rebounds per game — the one battle Sacramento can win on paper is the glass.

Availability shapes the rest. Irving, listed questionable in the game previews under knee injury management, was downgraded to doubtful Monday afternoon — the Mavericks' own injury story, covered separately by this desk — while Santi Aldama is doubtful, Dereck Lively II remains out after foot surgery and Sergio de Larrea is unavailable. Sacramento lists LaVine as questionable and Dylan Cardwell with a calf injury. None of it changes the arithmetic the building expects: a surging home team, a desperate visitor, and a fan base searching the matchup because nights like this are the ones that either confirm a streak or end a skid. The game file follows the final.
