Friday Traffic in Dallas–Fort Worth: Rockwall's Flagging Runs 9 to 3, the Overnight Closures Take Their Final Night, and the Canyon Detours Hold
The AM drive starts clear of the two closures that ended at 5 a.m. — westbound I-30 at Spur 580 in Fort Worth and FM 548 in Rockwall County. What remains is a working Friday: frontage-road flagging on I-30 in Rockwall from 9 to 3, the last night of the week's alternating overnight closures, and the long-term Canyon detours downtown.

Two pieces of overnight work are done before the Friday commute begins. In Fort Worth, TxDOT's full closure of westbound I-30 at Spur 580 and West Camp Bowie Boulevard — which sent westbound traffic down the frontage road to re-enter after Linkcrest Drive, with the crossover under I-30 also closed — ran Thursday 9 p.m. to Friday 5 a.m. and is over. In Rockwall County, FM 548's full overnight closure in both directions, for diaphragm and shoring work, also ended with its Nov. 1–6 window at 5 a.m. today.
The work that touches Friday itself is in Rockwall County, under the contractor notice running Nov. 1–7, read in full this run. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, flagging operations run on the westbound frontage road of I-30 between FM 2642 and FM 551, where crews are installing low-profile barriers, and on the eastbound frontage road between FM 551 and FM 2642, for barrier work and continuously reinforced concrete pavement. Tonight brings the final night of the week's alternating overnight closures, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.: eastbound between State Highway 205 and FM 3549, and westbound between John King Boulevard and SH 205. Emergency vehicles keep access through the work zones, the notice says.
Downtown, the long game continues. The I-30 Canyon project's long-term closures remain in force between the I-35E and I-45/U.S. 75 interchanges: Cesar Chavez Boulevard and Akard Street are closed and detoured at I-30 — Akard through summer 2028, Cesar Chavez through late 2028 — Cadiz Street is closed while it is rebuilt on a new alignment, and Good Latimer Expressway is narrowed to one lane in each direction through early 2028. The $888 million project runs to 2030, and TxDOT posts its planned weekend closures at drivetexas.org as they are scheduled.
